Where to Watch All the Freaky Friday Movies (Including the “Lost” 1990s Remake)

Things are getting freaky! Freakier Friday, the sequel to 2003’s Freaky Friday, is now in theaters.

The body swap concept of Freaky Friday has been huge for decades, ever since the original novel by Mary Rodgers hit bookshelves in 1972.

From Jodie Foster to Jamie Lee Curtis, a variety of actors have embodied the story of a mother and daughter who switch places and learn to understand each other.

So, how many Freaky Friday films are there — and where can you watch them? Watch With Us has the details on all the films in the franchise.

‘Freaky Friday’ (1976)

The original movie version of Freaky Friday stars Barbara Harris as Ellen Andrews and Jodie Foster as her daughter Annabel Andrews. This movie spawned two made-for-TV sequels about other members of the Andrews family.

The first, Summer Switch (1984), follows a similar premise in which Annabel’s dad, Bill Andrews (Robert Klein), switches places with son Ben (Scott Schwartz).

In the second made-for-TV film, A Billion for Boris, Seth Green plays Annabel’s younger brother Ben, while Scott Tiler plays Annabel’s boyfriend Boris. The trio discovers that their television is broadcasting news from the future, which they try to use to get rich.

Stream the original Freaky Friday on Disney+ and Hulu. The TV sequels aren’t available to stream or purchase.

‘Freaky Friday’ (1995)

Another made-for-TV version of the story, this movie stars CheersShelley Long and child star Gaby Hoffman of Field of Dreams and Sleepless in Seattle.

In this version, a pair of magical amulets is the cause of their switch. The 1995 version of Freaky Friday is not currently available for streaming or rental, but you can find a bootleg version of it on YouTube.

‘Freaky Friday’ (2003)

This 2003 version of the story deviates substantially from the original by making Anna’s (Lindsay Lohan) mother Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis) a widow who is about to get remarried.

This adds some higher stakes to the body swap, as they must figure out how to switch back before Tess’s wedding to Ryan (Mark Harmon). Chad Michael Murray also stars as Anna’s love interest, Jake. The 2003 version is the one getting the sequel treatment via Freakier Friday.

The 2003 remake of Freaky Friday is streaming on Disney+.

‘Freaky Friday’ (2018)

This version of Freaky Friday is a musical! It follows the mother-daughter duo Katherine (Heidi Blickenstaff) and Ellie (Cozi Zuehlsdorff).

In this version, a magical hourglass causes Ellie and Katherine to switch bodies. The musical has some great tunes and definitely lives up to the spirit of the original.

Freaky Friday the musical is streaming on Disney+.
