Are Anna and Jake Married in Freakier Friday? Relationship Status Revealed

Freakier Friday combines the perfect amount of laughs, heartfelt moments and nostalgia, a full 22 years after the original film starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis was released.

While life is quite different for Tess Coleman (Curtis) and her daughter, Anna Coleman (Lohan), in the 2025 sequel, one thing remains the same — Chad Michael Murray’s swoon-worthy Jake is a presence in their lives, even if it’s just in a minor capacity.

The sequel puts a new spin on the classic switcheroo of the first film. This time, Anna switches bodies with her teenage daughter, Harper Coleman (Julia Butters), while Tess switches bodies with Lily Davies (Sophia Hammons), the daughter of Anna’s English restaurateur fiancé, Eric Davies (Manny Jacinto). The switchup happens after they receive readings from a fortune teller at Anna’s bachelorette party.

As the four of them try to come up with a solution to switch back, the younger girls go a bit too far when they attempt to split up Anna and Eric and sabotage the wedding. Lily hopes that she and her dad will move back to London, while Harper wants to stay in California with her mom and grandma.

Are Anna and Jake Married in ‘Freakier Friday’?

Sadly, Anna and Jake’s relationship did not withstand the test of time. The pair are not married in Freakier Friday. Years after her fling with Jake, Anna moves on with Eric, whom she meets at Harper’s school after she and Lily cause a chemical explosion in the science lab. After several months of dating, Anna and Eric get engaged and schedule their wedding for October 3, much to the dismay of their daughters.

Is Jake the Father of Anna’s Daughter in ‘Freakier Friday’?

At the beginning of the film, it’s revealed that Anna is a single mom to Harper. The father of her daughter is not mentioned by name, however, it’s clear that it’s not Jake. She simply refers to Jake as her ex-boyfriend and it’s obvious that he is someone she rarely considers. The only interaction they’ve had is him liking a bunch of her Facebook posts and a brief chat about a charity auction.

What Is Chad Michael Murray’s Role in ‘Freakier Friday’?

Viewers first see Jake pulling up on a motorcycle outside of the record shop he now owns in Freakier Friday. There, Harper, who is trapped inside of Anna’s body, tries to reignite a spark with Jake so that Eric will think she is cheating on him and cancel the wedding.

The plan backfires when it becomes evident that Jake is not interested in Anna. Instead, he’s got his eyes on Tess, having no idea that Lily is trapped inside of her body. He flirts with Tess, even asking her if her husband, Ryan Volvo (Mark Harmon), is “still with us.” Tess confirms she is still happily married to Ryan. It’s a major callback to the first movie, where Jake becomes flirtatious with Tess when Anna is trapped inside of her body.

Harper (trapped in Anna’s body) is initially unsuccessful at trying to get Jake to fall back in love with Anna. Lily (trapped in Tess’ body) decides to invite Jake to Anna and Eric’s wedding rehearsal lunch. He shows up, causing a ton of confusion among the guests and especially for Eric.

Lily (still in Tess’ body) tells Jake that Anna is on her period and needs fast food to feel better. He complies and goes out to get her a bag of fast food, which is a slap in the face for Eric, since the wedding lunch is being held at his new restaurant. The spectacle causes Anna, Tess, Harper and Lily to get into an argument, and Eric ultimately decides to call off the wedding due to the drama.

With a little help from Anna’s band, Pink Slip, she is able to reconcile with Eric and a tender family moment helps her, Harper, Tess and Lily all switch back to their bodies.

Who Does Jake End Up With in ‘Freakier Friday’?

Eric and Anna end up getting married, and Jake is in attendance at the ceremony, but he’s not alone. The heartthrob brings a woman, who looks exactly like Tess from the first film with red spiky hair, as his wedding date. After the ceremony, Tess walks up to Jake and his date and compliments the woman’s dress, which makes Jake very happy.
