Ozzy Osbourne’s Death Certificate Lists Job Title as Rock Legend

Ozzy Osbourne’s legendary impact on rock music was acknowledged even in his job title on his death certificate.

According to PageSix, the official death certificate for the self-proclaimed “Prince of Darkness” listed his profession as “songwriter, performer and rock legend.” It was previously reported that Osbourne’s official cause of death was ruled to be a combination of cardiac arrest, acute myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease two weeks after his death at 76 on July 22.

There’s no question that “rock legend” was a fitting description for Ozzy, as he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame both as a member of Black Sabbath in 2006 and as a solo artist in 2024. He was also a member of the UK Music Hall of Fame for Sabbath and his solo career, in addition to getting a Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2002.

In 2015, Osbourne was honored with a prestigious Ivor Novello songwriting Award for lifetime achievement, as well as receiving the Global Icon Award from the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2014. Throughout his lifetime, Osbourne sold an estimated 100 million albums combined from Black Sabbath and his solo material.

The Osbourne family confirmed to Us Weekly that Ozzy passed away on July 22, after he previously announced in 2020 that he’d been privately battling Parkinson’s disease since 2003.

Ozzy was laid to rest beside a lake at his Buckinghamshire home following a public memorial procession through the streets of his hometown of Birmingham on July 30. His wife, Sharon Osbourne, and their three children — Aimee, Jack and Kelly — were all in attendance for the funeral despite strained relations within the family.

Kelly’s brother Jack, 39, subsequently explained that he’d shied away from social media after Ozzy’s death because his “heart has hurt too much.”
